Are you passionate about ensuring the educational success of Iowa’s students? Communities In Schools of Iowa (CIS of Iowa) is an affiliate of the Communities in Schools (CIS) national network of experienced professionals working in public schools to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. We are searching for a qualified candidate to place as a CIS Site Coordinator in Waterloo’s George Washington Carver Academy.

Under the supervision and guidance of the CIS of Iowa Executive Director and school principal, the Site Coordinator will bring approved resources, services and volunteers into the school to assist with school goals and address the needs of staff, students and their families.

General Duties:  
  • Responsible for implementing the Communities In Schools Model at the CIS of Iowa site.
  • Follows the CIS Total Quality Standards (TQS) guidelines for developing communities and affiliates, meeting milestones as appropriates to different stages of development.
  • Responsible for the planning, implementation, and daily supervision of the annual site operations plan. 
  • Meets annual milestones for incremental and total youth served as determined by school enrollment numbers, with Level 1 (school wide) and Level 2 (case management) services.
  • Collects and enters data into required databases on an ongoing basis, generating progress reports as requested.
  • Meets with community leaders, businesses and other potential funding sources to leverage additional operating funds with assistance from CIS of Iowa Leadership.
  • Serves as a liaison between the CIS of Iowa site school leadership and the CIS of Iowa office, and promotes cooperation between school faculty, administration and the CIS of Iowa team whenever possible. 
  • Collaborates and communicates with school staff on a regular basis to integrate CIS social and educational services, and keeps all team members informed about pertinent activities occurring at the school and in the community.
  • Works closely with school staff, parents/families, community agencies, and students to ensure coordination of the community’s services for the benefit of the students and their families.
  • Completes TRAX-CIS database training and CIS National Site Coordinator Certification Program as coordinated by CIS of Iowa, in addition to other professional development opportunities as assigned.
  • Performs any and all other duties assigned by CIS of Iowa leadership.

Qualifications:    
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience (3+ years) in the health and human services (or a closely related) field.
  • Computer and database skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills. 
  • Experience working with at-risk youth and case management experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
