HIM Operations Consultant
This is a full-time position that offers career growth while taking on challenging engagements on Optums ICD-10 Provider consulting team. Monday Thursday travel is required.
This position is responsible for delivering a full range of services to clients that may include but are not limited to project management, healthcare reform initiatives including 5010 and ICD-10 and support analysis. Consults with clients to define needs or problems, gathers data and performs analysis to advise or recommend solutions. This position is a resource for projects and assignments and must demonstrate the ability to work independently at a client site. Duties and Responsibilities include:
-Drive interview with the Hospital Health Information Management/Medical Records department to discuss workflow related to: coding/abstracting, deficiency tracking, physician queries, edits, productivity/quality metrics, and audit/QA.
-Assess the impact of ICD-10 on specific workflow and identify the associated education needs, system remediation needs and workflow redesign
-Identify potential performance improvement opportunities or best practices and make recommendations to clients on how to integrate new process/best practice into current workflow
-Develop coder productivity mitigation recommendations
-Document findings, impacts and recommendations within assessment deliverables; responsible for the HIM sections within each deliverable
-Collaborate with assessment team (Clinical, IT, Revenue Cycle and PM) in developing overall strategic findings and recommendations based on areas of risk or opportunity identified during interviews
-Develop reports and presentations based on project specifications for delivery to client.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
-5+ years HIM operational experience.-5+ years of experience in either a consulting role or a supporting role in a healthcare HIM department, practice, or business office setting.-5+ years of experience with healthcare HIM workflows
- Revenue cycle workflow experience in addition to HIM (e.g. Patient Access and/or Patient Financial Services) strongly preferred.
-CDI and physician education experience a plus--Up to 80% travel required.

Education/Experience:
-RHIA or RHIT required
-Prior consulting experience preferred
-AHIMA ICD-10 designation strongly preferred
-ICD-10 experience preferred
-Experience in HIM Operational Role required, such as Director, Manager or Supervisor of HIM
-Solid understanding of HIM workflow
-Direct experience working in hospital or provider setting, including (1 or more of the following): claims/billing, registration/scheduling, case management, health information management, IT, clinical units/departments, quality, compliance, etc.-Presentation skills, including development and delivery of PowerPoint presentations to audiences of various sizes

-Familiarity with various HIM encoder and/or computer-assisted-coding products
-Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or one to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
