Job Description
Position: Lab Technician, QA/QC Bulk 2nd Shift
Department: Quality Control- Lab
Reporting Structure: Vice President, Technical Services
Reporting to this position: No Direct Reports
BASIC FUNCTION
To perform testing and analysis of manufactured bulk or finished goods in an efficient and timely manner. Perform other duties related to testing of Validation batches and other equipment and process validations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Make batch adjustments using raw materials or processing knowledge for Viscosity, pH and color.
· Make suggestions to the manufacturing department to modify processes to rework bulk to meet product specifications. Monitor rework.
· Maintain knowledge of multiple phase batch making techniques with current technology.
· Update bulk History database and report data to be used for Annual Product Reviews. Following formulation specifications, test bulk product to ensure all manufacturing procedures and guidelines have been carefully adhered to, resulting in acceptable product.
· Work with R&D (Research & Development) to complete Pilot and First production batches according to specifications.
· Properly record test results and test procedures to ensure documentation relating to batch approval or rework is completed in a timely manner.
· Maintain adherence to cGMP’s (current Good Manufacturing Practices) and SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) for the cosmetic industry.
· Write/update Work Instructions, Test Methods and SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) for Bulk QC.
· Maintain laboratory notebooks and all documentation in a neat, complete and accurate manner according to cGMP’s (current Good Manufacturing Practices).
· Review batch records for accuracy and completeness.
· Maintain bulk standards and retains per company SOP or customer requirements.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
· Professional and well versed in English written and verbal communication skills.
· Computer proficiency and literacy in the use of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word and Outlook).
· Knowledge of the principles and processes involved in the manufacturing of beauty products within the hair care, skin care and body treatment categories.
· Extremely detail oriented to insure accurate documentation
· Effective presentation skills: Must have the ability to effectively present information and communicate with all levels of personnel and management.
· Scientific Math Aptitude and strong analytical skills.
· Must have a passion for and interest in beauty products (hair care, skin care and bath & body products).
· Multi tasking and time management skills required.
· Must have knowledge of Laboratory equipment used in the measuring, testing and recording of results.
· Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance with relation to the manufacture, testing and approval of manufactured bulk.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand for prolonged periods of time; sit; walk; and use hands to handle objects, reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Continuous use of computer keyboard and visual focus of computer monitor essential to job duties.
EDUCATION / TRAINING
· Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry preferable or significant experience (5 to 7 years) in the cosmetic/personal care industry.
