JOB DESCRIPTION
Design Engineer will design and analyze components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies utilizing Solid Works and IDEAS 3D CAD software. The Design Engineer will specify product and component tests, and engage closely with manufacturing operations. Design efforts will adhere to Ferno design standards and product designs and revisions will meet or exceed FDA and EMS industry standards.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Develop original and specified concept designs for new and existing products. Work
as a team member on cross-functional Product Development teams from concept to
manufacture.
- Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner to meet scheduled deadlines and/or
required implementation plans.
- Complete or verify the structural and functional analysis for each product, sub-
assembly, or component design.
- Develop models, renderings and technical drawings of each concept design.
- Release detailed drawings and Bill of Materials for approved designs, including first
article approvals as needed.
- Work with manufacturing operations during trial runs and early production builds on
new products and on major changes to existing products.
- Support manufacturing operations on product sustainment and product continuous
improvement projects.
- Maintain project communications with inside and outside stakeholders.
- Exercise safety precautions at all times.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of design developments during all
phases of each project.
- Assist in material selection for aluminum alloys, ferrous and non-ferrous metals,
plastics, and composites.
- Assist in the development of tooling/fixtures.
- Interact with Product Management regarding product designs, functionality, and
application.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Other computer software knowledge includes Microsoft office products.

- Ability to set-up, constrain, and analyze component-level Finite Element Analyses is
preferred.
- Ability to apply robust engineering practices, and perform analyses via hand
calculations, to design projects.
- Should be knowledgeable of basic design principles for injection molding,
metalworking, machining, castings, and thermo-set materials.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree (BSME) from four-year college or university.
- Minimum three years experience in designing in a 3D environment; kinematic
analysis and FEA abilities preferred.
- Minimum of three years of solids modeling experience. Solid Works 3D experience
preferred, familiarity with IDEAS design software would be an advantage.
- Design experience should include solids modeling, detailing, and assembly.
- Special consideration given to candidates with product packaging (shipping and
handling) experience.
- Materials experience should include ferrous and non-ferrous metals, thermo-
plastics, and thermo-sets.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional
journals, financial reports, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of
managers, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as integral calculus,
exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and statistical analysis.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution,
determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation
techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING
- Ability to define problems collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or
diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
