About the Job

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

·       Under the direct supervision of a qualified Dentist in an ambulatory care setting, assists the dentist in the direct and indirect care of the dental patients. Utilizes established dental assisting protocol and procedures.

·       Obtains medical and dental histories.    

·       Exposes and develops dental x-rays.

·       Consults with dentist regarding patient history and treatment.

·       Is accountable for maintaining and improving own dental assisting knowledge, skill, and competence.

·       Supports dental clinic’s philosophy, objectives, and goals.

·       Performs all dental assisting procedures assigned by the dentist

·       Applies caries-preventive agents such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants.

·       Helps patients develop and maintain good oral health by educating them about plaque control, diet, tobacco use cessation, and other habits affecting oral health.

·       Applies desensitizing agents and topical anesthesia.

·       Takes impressions of teeth for study models, custom fluoride trays, or athletic mouthguards.

·       Places and removes periodontal dressings. Removes sutures.

·       Operates technical equipment such as x-ray machines, and x-ray processor and sterilizers.

·       Maintains up-to-date records on patients.

·       Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.

·       Assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures. Strong background in computer skills desired.

·       Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures.

·       Arranges to have needed supplies and equipment on hand for dental area.

JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED:

·       Current knowledge of and ability to follow a full range of dental clinical procedures and protocols.

·       Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.

·       Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques.

·       Ability to work as a team member within a clinical environment.

·       Patient interviewing skills.

·       Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures.

·       Records maintenance skills.

·       Ability to set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines.

·       Knowledge of Federal, State, and institutional regulations and guidelines for the provision of dental outpatient services.

·       Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide range of dental equipment in accordance with prescribed procedures and standards.

·       Knowledge of sterile procedures.

·       Knowledge of radiation safety procedures, standards, and protocols.

·       Ability to develop and process dental radiographs.

·       Customer service focused. Multi-task oriented in a fast paced environment

Desired: Knowlege of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.

EXPERIENCE (Years):

·       Required: Minimum 2 years of recent dental practice experience in a role where the candidate has a demonstrated ability to manage routine dental care issues.

·       Desired: Expanded duty experience valued. Diversity of experience is especially valued.

EDUCATION:

·       Required: AS Degree in Dental or Graduate of an approved Dental Assisting program. Certified Dental Assistant

·       Desired:Expanded Function Certification. Current BCLS certification. Additional certifications

OTHER SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

·       Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.

·       This position is unaccompanied.

·       Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.

·       Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
