This position is located in our DC, Washington facility
General Dynamics IT has a position on a mid-sized federal contract in Washington, DC for a Senior Network Administrator with specialization in VMware and Windows Server 2008 R2.
The candidate will possess a strong understanding of VMware and Windows Server technologies in a stand-alone enterprise. Candidate will be responsible for daily administrative duties involved in supporting, maintaining, and tuning a virtual infrastructure, including both vSphere Host and guest virtual machines. The candidate will have a working understanding of SAN and NAS technologies sufficient to act as a backup administrator for basic storage functions.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
VMware Environment
• Daily application/monitoring and maintenance of specific hardware/applications including:
• vSphere 4.x (ESX, ESXi), including HA, DRS, vMotion, Update Manager, and SRM
• Multi-site vSphere deployment, including support of >30 hosts and several hundred virtual machines
• HP C7000 Blade Infrastructure, including integrated network and fiber switches and Virtual Connect technologies
• EMC and NetApp Storage, Fiber and NFS-based Storage Protocols
• Strong knowledge of Networking Technologies
• Working knowledge of vSphere 5.x and Cisco UCS server hardware is highly desirable
Virtual Server
• Administration and maintenance of Virtual Windows environments including:
• Expert-level knowledge of Windows 2003 / 2008 servers
• Virtual Machine performance monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting
• HA, DRS, vMotion
• Cloning, and thin-and-thick provisioning
• Configuring and tuning Resource Pools
• Snapshots
• Permissions and Roles
• Host Networking, including Distributed Virtual Switches and VLAN Trunking
• Storage configuration, HA and DRS
• Upgrading and Patching Hosts through Update Manager / Host Update Utility
• Host Profiles.
• VI Client and Server
• Physical server consolidation and P2V migrations
• Altiris Agent installation and configuration on ESX servers
• Team participation in installation, configuring, migration and troubleshooting ESX, VMs servers and license server
• Implementation of the Altiris Total Server Management System, notification server deployment server, and security expressions
• Remote server and system design
• Patching Windows servers, using scripts
• Supporting HP Blade Servers BL480 and BL680, C7000-series infrastructure (HP SIM).

• System Requirements
• Technical References as well as educating the client as required.
• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training or work / military experience.
Experience
• 8 years of systems engineering experience in Information Technology
• 3-5 years experience in VMWare/Windows Server Virtualization
• Working experience with SAN/NAS administration
• Experience allocating resources in a Storage Area Network (SAN) environment
• Troubleshooting of issues between VMWARE hosts and Fiber Channel access to the Storage Area Network (SAN)
• Experience with RAID configurations for performance and reliability on the SAN for VMWare hosts
• Experience using mixed hardware vendors and models for VMWare hosts
• Experience and knowledge of ITIL highly desirable
Required Certification:
• VMWare Certified Professional (VCP)
Desired Certifications:
• MCSE Windows 2003 MCITP Windows 2008
• CCNA Certification
• ITIL v3 Foundation Examination Certification
