Job Title: Purchasing Manager
Department: Operations
Reports To: Director of Operations
Summary
Directs and coordinates the purchasingfunctions of a manufacturer of building products servicing customers throughout the United States. Manages the selection, qualification, and initial setup of national contracts, as well as regional sources of raw material and packaging supplies as needed by all plants.Acts as the “key” contact for all vendors.Also maintains commodity pricing within our ERP system.
Essential Job Duties
§ Researches primary and secondary suppliers of critical raw material required to produce products at all plants.
§ Define key and strategic raw materials which are part of a National purchasing negotiation
§ Manages key raw material vendors including pricing from all vendorsnationwide with emphasis on national relationships.
§ Sources key packaging supplies for all plants; bags, pails, and other packaging material/equipment as required.
§ Is key negotiator for major for commodity negotiations.
§ Provides purchasing guidance and support to the plant level management staff in terms of raw material and packaging and costing.
§ Seeks alternative and offset materialsfor formulations when applicable.
§ Performs vendor qualifications, plant approvals, and vendor feedback.
§ Coordinates all vendor interaction. Key POC. (Point of Contact)
§ Works with R&D to validate new sources especially for key raw materials
§ Purchases and manages all company vehicles.
§ Tracks key industrial indicators to allow for changes in raw material pricing.
§ Generates reports on price fluctuations nationwide.
§ Cultivates relationships with potential funding sources.
§ Rationalizes the number of vendors and items in order to generate savings
Job Requirements/Education and Experience
§ B. S. degree in a science field preferred
§ Ten or more years work experience in a similar industry and/or capacity within a manufacturing industry
§ Must have the ability to effectively communicate with managers, employees,
and customers

§ Must be well organized and have time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
§ In depth understanding of market fluctuations relted to key indicators like fuel, lumber, pulp, paper, and resins.
§ Understanding of mining materials and/or chemical industry and basic chemistry principles – A PLUS
Technical Competencies
§ Project management experience
§ Strong negotiation skills a must
§ Advanced computer skills, includingMicrosoft office suite
§ Advanced MRP skills, planning and forecasting
§ Excellent oral and written communication skills
§ Basic knowledge of Chemistry, with emphasis on organic and inorganic formulations
§ Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in performing duties.
§ Strong presentation skills

Key Performance Indicators
Ø Track and report varying market conditions by way of graphs
Ø Track and report price and conditions of key raw material
Ø Track and report internal volume and costs of raw material for all locations.
Ø Track and report inflation rate for all material used by the company.
Ø Track and report savings and linked action plans
