POSITION SUMMARY:
The Floor Clerk/Mail Clerk position is multi-faceted. Individuals with this job title must be able to handle various duties as they relate to each specific assignment. Responsibilities include the distribution and preparation of US Post Office and other special courier letters and packages, the sorting and distribution of internal and external mail, and scanning of some USPS mail. Also responsible for maintaining supplies in the CP rooms, transporting of files and boxes, and occasional moving of furniture.
Please note the hours for this position are 12:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operation and maintenance of postage meter for various US Post Office letters and packages
- Weigh and affix proper postage to varying classes of outgoing mail
- Prepare and track packages on the UPS WorldShip and CampusShip systems
- Preparation of internal mail to firmwide locations via UPS
- Pick up and delivery of internal and external mail.
- Maintain a log of all UPS and other courier packages
- Sort incoming mail for distribution within the Firm
- Open and scan USPS mail as part of the "Mail Image" project.
- Make deliveries/pick-ups at Global Customer Center office at 20 Stanwix Street
- Moving and lifting files, boxes, and furniture
- Maintaining supplies to all CP areas
- Assisting Courthouse Agent with court filings
- Miscellaneous requests
REQUIREMENTS:
Must have good organizational and communications skills. Some mechanical ability required. The ability to work independently and make judgment calls. Ability to complete duties in a timely and efficient manner. Ability to interact with all levels of personnel as well as represent the Firm in a positive manner when dealing with outside clients, vendors, etc. Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Education:
High School Diploma or its equivalent.
Experience:
One year experience in mail room/messenger environment preferred.
Skills:
Ability to read written instructions and understand frequent verbal instructions. Typing is helpful when handling mail clerk responsibilities. Ability to become familiar with downtown office building locations.

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:
Must be able to operate personal computer and other office equipment such as Pitney Bowes postage machine, UPS CampusShip and WorldShip systems, Equitrac terminal, telephone, duplicating machine, etc. Ability to push/pull mail carts and dollies.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires standing, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling. May require lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines. Requires normal range of vision.
TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to deal with pressures of a fast-paced environment. Must be able to handle multiple tasks on a daily basis and make judgment decisions. Must be able to adapt to changing work situations and grasp and apply new ideas.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in a typical office setting as well as in the outdoors. Must be able to work in all elements of weather -- snow, rain, heat, etc. Occasionally called upon to work overtime to meet deadlines.
